Better Together
To create my designs, I choose production partners that are innovators in the textile industry. My goal is to make all of our products sweatshop free from locally sourced sustainable materials, organic fibers, and recycled waste, all while using the least amount of water and energy possible…and then saving the rainforest! With your support, we are on our way!
I have partnered with manufacturers that are making a difference by constantly improving the way they make clothing. By switching to sustainable materials, energy efficient manufacturing and ethical labor practices, we are making clothing for the future. Together we are constantly working to add more environmentally friendly and socially conscious options to our collections. Your purchases are supporting our efforts to make the world a better place, thank you so much!
If you would like to know more about who made your specific item of Calunica clothing, please just send me a message. Also, please let me know what type of materials are most important to you! If you would like more organic options, bamboo, or recycled materials, please let me know and I will add some to my next collection. Thanks!
Slow Fashion
Made to Order
Less is more. Less clothing produced means more trees, clean air, clean water and happy people. We are proud to be a part of the Slow Fashion Movement. Many of our styles are now made-to-order. That means that they are created just for you! Once your order is placed fabric is printed and sewn in the color, style and size that you selected. This cuts waste caused by overproduction.
Quality Products
If clothes look good longer, we keep them longer and reuse them. Washing an item of clothing uses a lot less water and energy than making a new one! We believe that making quality products is extremely important in sustainability. Clothing should be made to be reused, not thrown away.
Human Impact
Sweatshop Free
We are committed to having a positive impact on the world and work only with Sweatshop Free production partners. Sweatshop Free means that the people that made these clothes worked in a safe environment and were paid fairly.
Traditional Handcrafts
Of course we want to support new innovative ways of making sustainable clothing, but we also believe in keeping tradition alive. That is why we have sourced some handmade items made by traditional artisans. Past down from one generation to the next, handcrafts are a huge part of our cultural heritage. Often these skills are lost when prices of textiles and other goods are driven down by cost effective machinery and families are no longer able to make a living producing their craft. By bringing their products to a larger audience, we hope to offer more artisans the ability to make a fair wage while keeping tradition alive.
Environmental Impact
Locally Made
For us, this means California. Items that are locally made have reduced emissions due to transportation. They are also less likely to have caused pollution, as we have stricter environmental regulations than a lot of other parts of the world.
Sustainable Materials
Clothing is eco-friendly not just in how it’s made, but what it’s made of. That’s why we are adding more items to our shop made of bamboo, organic cotton, eco-poly, and sustainably sourced local natural materials.
Bamboo
We have added bamboo fabric to the back of some of our tank tops and to the lining of our slouchy beanies. Bamboo is a fast growing plant that can be made into a soft durable fabric.
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is produced with fewer chemicals, the result is a natural material that is better for the environment and our bodies.
Eco-Poly
This Polyester fiber is made in Montreal, Canada using 70% Less Water, 70% Less Energy and 70% Less Heat. Polyester fiber can be printed on using sublimation, when color is absorbed into the fibers using heat. This process ensures that the print will never fade. High quality garments reduce waste by being durable. When garments can be washed and worn while still keeping their shape and color people are likely to keep them longer.
